About Zalman Sher

Zalman Sher, owner and president of American Electrical, has been a
licensed electrical contractor since 1984 and a general contractor since 1980. He founded Berkeley Electric in 1984, which later became American Electrical.

An entrepreneur from a young age, Zalman started his first company when
he was 12. His father was an artist and sculptor who worked with wire, making mannequins and department store displays (www.izzysher.com). Zalman inherited his father’s skill with his hands, so he welded, fixed bicycles and repaired things for the neighborhood kids—for $2.50 an hour.

Today, Zalman continues to operate American Electrical, as well as to personally serve
its customers. He also makes regular appearances on HGTV’s “House Detective” as an expert
consultant and hands-on electrician.
